YOSEMITE and MAMMOTH LAKES
| Adventure Home | The Horse Drive | Double Eagle Resort and Spa | Travel Back Through Yosemite |
We began our trip by traveling on Highway 120 (Tioga Pass Rd.) through Yosemite National Park, on the western side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. From the entrance at Big Oak Flat, to the exit at Tioga Pass is an ~ 50-mile stretch of some of the most breath-taking scenery in the U.S. There are many places you can pull off to the side of the road to stop and enjoy and incredible view.
After passing through Yosemite, we took Highway 395 South to June Lake Loop, passing Mono Lake. We spent our first night, in a rented, 1 BR, 1 BA section of an A-frame cabin at Reverse Creek Lodge
The next morning, we drove into the tiny town of June Lake, hoping to find a phone. Imagine that, no phones at the cabin, no cellular phone coverage and having to drive several miles to contact the outside world! We picked up a few forgotten supplies in the "General Store," and found a coffee shop - proving that even in the remote regions of California, an espresso drink is available!
We checked out of our cabin, and decided to check out Frontier Pack Train, though we were not scheduled to check in their until 5pm that day. They made the recommendation of spending the day driving though the Mammoth Lakes area, another 30 or so miles down Highway 395 toward Bishop.
Deanna and I spent the day enjoying the beauty of the Mammoth Lakes region, doing some shopping in the resort town and eating!
After a completely relaxing day (second in a row!), we headed back to Frontier Pack Train to check in and begin the Horse Drive portion of our adventure. Click HERE to continue our journey with us.
